Where To Stay In Lima: My Best Neighborhoods & Hotel Picks 2026

My first question after deciding to visit Lima? Wondering where the best neighborhoods in Lima to stay in are located. It can be overwhelming to know where to book a room in such a massively large city.

That’s why in this detailed hotel guide, I’ll share where to stay in Lima, Peru so you don’t have to speculate or unfortunately book in the wrong location.

I’ll provide tips on visiting and why staying in one of my three favorite neighborhoods is worth selecting as your Lima base.

Within each neighborhood I’ll list out my top picks for the best accommodations and hotels in Lima based on two stays.

Lima is the largest city in Peru, so if you don’t plan accordingly you may find yourself in a hotel that is pretty far from any tourist attraction or located in a questionable area as far as safety goes.

So, which neighborhood is my overall favorite to stay in Lima? Hands down I’d pick the neighborhood of Miraflores. Keep reading to find out why!

Where To Stay In Lima, Peru

Miraflores

In my opinion, the best district to stay in Lima is Miraflores!

But you need to pick the best place for you, so let’s dive into what makes Miraflores an excellent choice.

I’ve stayed in Miraflores on two visits and find it the perfect balance for the best location to various Lima attractions, with an abundance of choices for Lima accommodations, and the best area for eateries.

Whether you are looking to spend a modest amount or searching for a luxurious splurge, Miraflores will have the most options in every price range.

What makes staying in Miraflores ideal is that it is centrally located between the other two neighborhoods in this post, Barranco and the Historic District.

That makes it easy to walk to all the sights in Miraflores and Barranco with an Uber to the further attractions of the Historic District.

A large section of Miraflores is bordered by the spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean along Malecon de Miraflores.

This scenic coastal park perched up on the cliffs above the ocean includes a series of parks and a walkable path spanning 6 miles (10k).

And if this isn’t reason enough to make you to want to stay in Miraflores, the food scene should…

You’ll find the highest volume of top restaurants, cafes, and bars in Miraflores which is any foodie’s delight.

Bonus: Miraflores is the safest and nicest neighborhood in Lima so great if you are traveling solo.

Here are the best places to stay in Lima’s Miraflores district:

Luxury Hotels

Pullman Lima Miraflores: If you want prime location combined with a luxury stay that has comfort and a cosmopolitan vibe, book here. Plus, the rooftop bar and pool with killer views are incredible…

JW Marriott Hotel Lima: Overlooking the Pacific Ocean along Lima’s Malecon boardwalk, this 5 star hotel in Lima not only racks up points as a Marriott Bonvoy member but has a central location to top sights, restaurants, shopping, and home to endless ocean views.

Miraflores Park, A Belmond Hotel: If you have ever stayed at a Belmond property, then you know… An oasis of elegance with plush accommodations paired with exquisite service is what makes Belmond Miraflores worth splurging on in addition to its location, spa, and rooftop pool.

Mid-Range Hotels

Aloft Lima Miraflores: Located in the heart of Miraflores in walking distance to a number of great eateries, cafes, the coastal path of Malecon de Miraflores, and the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo. This is one of the hotels I stayed at and I loved the décor, bar/lounge, pool, and the fact it’s a Marriott Bonvoy hotel.

Casa Andina Standard Benavides: Just 1 block from the famous Kennedy Park (Cat Park), you are centrally located in the lovely Miraflores neighborhood with quick access to several attractions, eateries, and shopping at Larcomar. And don’t forget to grab an amazing sandwich at La Lucha Sangucheria Criolla next to Cat Park!

Radisson RED Miraflores: Tucked between the two previous hotels listed, the Radisson RED is perfectly positioned for quick access to great restaurants, coffee shops, parks, and coastal viewpoints. It has a very artsy, fun, and urban vibe that is visually eye-catching! Plus, you can sip a cocktail and enjoy the views on the rooftop bar.

Budget Lodging

Ayni Living Miraflores: Staying on a budget doesn’t mean you have to give up on super stylish décor, comfy rooms, or a great location. Book a dorm room or a private room depending on your preference. In addition, there is a fun bar, restaurant and classes you can participate in!

Ibis Budget Lima Miraflores: You can’t beat the location, especially for the price point in a super comfortable room with an ultra-modern aesthetic. As an Ibis hotel it is part of the Accor hotel chain which you can get points for staying. It also has a restaurant and bar although you are steps from many options as for as eating goes!

Alpes Lima Kennedy Park: A chic oasis in the center of it all near Kennedy Park (Cat Park). This lively hostel has a bar, rooftop pool, and shared kitchen. Keep in mind that there is no elevator and if you are a light sleeper it might not be the place to stay due to street noise and party-like atmosphere.

Pros Of Staying In Miraflores

  • The safest and cleanest neighborhood in Lima
  • Endless amount of top restaurants, cafes, and bars
  • Steps from the coastal Malecon de Miraflores boardwalk
  • Most hotel options in any Lima neighborhood
  • Next to tons of shopping including Larcomar

Cons Of Staying In Miraflores

  • Not close to the airport if that is a priority
A vibrant art mural of a boy with his face cut out in the shape of a heart and him holding his heart face shaped face in his hand in red, orange, and green colors in Lima's artsy district.

Barranco

The Barranco neighborhood is right next to Miraflores and is my second favorite area to stay in Lima.

Why so? It has a slower pace and feels like a neighborhood you might live in with outstanding coffee shops, very artsy (and I mean everywhere), and some of the best places to eat in Lima.

Plus, you can easily walk over to Miraflores for even more food and shopping options.

If you enjoy finding cool street art, Barranco has murals around every corner and like Miraflores is a short walk to the coastal Malecon de Miraflores boardwalk.

This bohemian neighborhood is also home to the famous Bridge of Sighs.

The only downside to Barranco is that there are not a ton of hotel options here and tend to be more budget. But you will find several great Airbnb options to select from.

Luxury Hotels/Accommodations

Hotel B: This is one of the best boutique hotels in Lima! A luxury stay exuding elegance and beauty from its striking exterior architecture to the finest details in décor throughout. Known for its fantastic service, great location among the artsy Barranco just 1 block from the Pacific Ocean with a fine dining restaurant, and rooftop terrace.

Villa Barranco by Ananay: Located in a historic 1920s home that has been updated with modern touches for a luxurious place to base you Lima trip from. With 9 rooms to choose from, a stay here is tranquil to say the least. You can also enjoy the stunning Pacific Ocean views less than a block away from the rooftop terrace.

Mid-Range

Casa Fanning Hotel: Bordering the Miraflores neighborhood and steps from the Contemporary Museum of Art, Casa Fanning is the perfect combination of value, modern aesthetics, and fantastic location. As a bonus, the rooms have small kitchenettes and there is a rooftop pool.

Budget

Lima Wari Hotel Boutique: Overall Barranco has a very laid back vibe as Lima’s art district which makes it an appealing place to stay. Centrally located, this Lima boutique hotel has a cozy theme with spacious rooms that have either a terrace or balcony. As long as you are ok with a shared bathroom, this a wonderful value for the location to everything.

Viajero Kokopelli Lima: Enjoy staying in hostels? This is one of the best hostels in Lima for its clean, modern rooms and dormitories featuring a very cool architectural style. With chic common areas, a bar, and spots along the terrace to read or work you can expect plenty of social opportunities here.

Pros Of Staying In Barranco

  • An abundance of art murals and art galleries
  • Several mouthwatering places to eat and drink
  • A quieter “real” neighborhood
  • Quick access to Malecon de Miraflores coastal boardwalk

Cons Of Staying In Barranco

  • Accommodation options are limited
  • The farthest neighborhood on this list from the airport
  • Further from attractions in the historic district

Lima’s Historic District

As far as attractions and history go, there is a TON to see in the historic district!

But is it the best district to stay in Lima? In my opinion, no.

It is a must to visit for the day to see all of the oldest colonial buildings, squares, cathedrals, museums, catacombs, and more but it isn’t the top place to stay the night.

During the day it is bustling with people but at night when all the tourists have gone there isn’t a lot to do.

It is probably why there are not a ton of hotel options as compared to Miraflores.

Staying in the historic district, you definitely feel like you are staying in a big city with more traffic and noise than the two previous neighborhoods.

Depending on traffic, you are 25 to 50 mins from the neighborhoods of Miraflores and Barranco. It isn’t that far but the traffic congestion adds time to your travel.

That said, if you are limited on time and your top priority is to see all the historic sites then planning a stay in Lima’s historic district is a great choice especially if you want to splurge on the first few picks below!

Luxury

Gran Hotel Bolivar: This historic hotel has absolute elegance paired with grand architecture directly across from Plaza San Martin. It’s also an 8-10 minute walk from Plaza Mayor (main square in historic district). Even if you don’t stay here, make a point to visit the bar for one of the best Pisco Sour’s in Lima!

Sheraton Lima Hotel & Convention Center: As part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, it has it all from comfortable beds, a restaurant, bar, pool, and fitness center. It also borders a park, the MALI museum, and a 20-minute walk to the evening Magic Circuit Water Show.

Mid-Range

Hotel Diamond: Besides the very reasonable pricing, Hotel Diamond is a prime spot 3 blocks from Plaza Mayor, multiple cathedrals, catacombs, and more. But as with any hotel in this area of the city bring ear plugs to block out potential noise.

Pros Of Staying In The Historic District

  • Next to numerous attractions (museums, plazas, cathedrals, etc)
  • Good if you only have a day and priority is to see historic center

Cons Of Staying In Historic District

  • Not many hotel options
  • Can be very noisy and busy (any big events)
  • Not as safe at night compared to Miraflores & Barranco

How To Get To Your Hotel

When flying into Lima, you will arrive at Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM), the largest airport in Peru.

All major airlines fly into Peru such as Delta, United, American, Aeromexico, LATAM, and Copa Airlines.

From the airport, it will take anywhere from 40 minutes to 1.5 hours to get to hotels in either the historic district, Miraflores, and Barranco.

It’s not the distance but the traffic congestion that makes travel to your hotel long.

On average, expect 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach any of the hotels listed knowing that during rush hour it could be longer.

On one visit I took a taxi and on another, I booked a shuttle ahead of time. Based on the two trips, booking a shuttle was way easier, less stressful, and about the same price.

👉 Tip: When going between Miraflores/Barranco to the Historic District, I used Uber as I found it easier than getting a taxi.

Tips When Considering Accommodations In Lima

  • How Many Days Is Enough To See Lima? I recommend no less than 2-3 nights to see all the major attractions and enjoy some amazing meals but 3-4 nights allows you to take a few tours and see each neighborhood in more depth.
  • How Long Is Your Stay? If you only have 1 night staying in the historic district allows you to see the top Lima highlights maximizing your time. If you have a few days or more, then Miraflores is the best choice.
  • What Is Your Budget? If you are looking for the neighborhood with the widest range of options as far as budget goes, Miraflores will have everything from hostels, budget, mid-range, and luxury.
  • What Attractions Are Your Top Priority? If you want to focus on the historic sites, then staying in Lima’s historic district is #1. If having an abundance of incredible food, cafes, shopping, and attractions close by, Miraflores is my first pick followed by Barranco.

What Is The Weather Like In Lima?

Lima is one of those cities you can visit any time of the year as it doesn’t get significant weather no matter the month.

With its location along the Pacific Ocean, temperatures are moderate with not a lot of fluctuations throughout the year.

Shockingly, Lima only gets about 1-inch of rain PER YEAR!

That said, a majority of the year Lima is very overcast with grey skies so even though it might look rainy it has at most a heavy mist in the winter months.

If you want warmer temperatures and sunnier skies then visit during Peru’s summer months (December – March).

The most important factor when considering when to visit? Why are you coming to Peru.

I say that because the majority of people are heading to Cusco and Machu Pichu. If that is your priority then I would not visit during the summer.

If you are hiking and want the best weather conditions then the spring, fall, and winter months are the best. Not hiking? Then yes, summer is great!

During the winter and spring months always layer up with a sweater or jacket and you’ll be fine.

👉 Tip: If you are coming from North America or Europe, remember that the seasons in Peru are opposite from back home.
